Quick Answer:
A star on Snapchat can mean different things depending on where you see it. A Snapchat+ Badge (✪) means the person has Snapchat+, while a Snap Star (⭐) means the account belongs to a creator or public figure recognized by Snapchat. Other star symbols, such as the gold star (🌟), have different meanings related to Snapchat activity.
What Does a Star Mean on Snapchat?
A star next to a name or profile on Snapchat can represent different things. The most common ones are the Snapchat+ Badge, Snap Star, and certain friend emojis.
If you see a star on someone’s Snapchat profile, it does not always mean they have Snapchat+. Snapchat uses different star symbols for different purposes, so the meaning depends on the type of star and where it appears.
The black Snapchat+ Badge (✪) is connected to a Snapchat+ subscription. A Snap Star (⭐) is used to identify eligible creators and public figures recognized by Snapchat. A gold star (🌟) can appear as a friend emoji and has a different meaning.
Understanding which star you are seeing makes it easier to know what it means on Snapchat
Why Do Some People Have a Star Next to Their Name on Snapchat?
A star next to someone’s name on Snapchat does not always mean the same thing. Snapchat uses different stars and badges for different purposes, so the meaning depends on the type of star you see.
Snapchat+ Badge (✪)
The black star badge (✪) can show that someone has Snapchat+. It is an optional badge, so a Snapchat+ subscriber can choose if they want to display it on their profile or not. The badge is off by default.
Gold Star (🌟)
A gold star can appear as a Snapchat friend emoji and is associated with someone replaying a Snap. It is different from the Snapchat+ Badge and does not mean that the person has a Snapchat+ subscription.
This star is added by Snapchat automatically. You cannot turn it on or off like the Snapchat+ Badge.
Snap Star (⭐)
A Snap Star is not the same as a Snapchat+ subscriber. A Snap Star is a creator or public figure who has been recognized and verified by Snapchat. Snapchat gives eligible creators and public figures a special star on their profile to show that the account has been verified.
So, if you see a star associated with someone’s Snapchat profile, don’t assume they have Snapchat+. The star may be showing that the person is a Snap Star not a Snapchat+ subscriber.
What Is a Snap Star on Snapchat?
A Snap Star is a creator or public figure who has been verified by Snapchat. Snap Stars have a star next to their name or on their profile, which helps people recognize that the account belongs to the real person or an authorized team.
Snapchat looks at several things when deciding whether an account can become a Snap Star. These include audience engagement, public Stories, authenticity, notability, and the quality of the content. Having a large number of followers alone does not guarantee Snap Star status.
Is a Snap Star the Same as Snapchat+?
No. They are two different things.
- Snapchat+ is a paid subscription that gives users extra features.
- Snap Star is a verification status for eligible creators and public figures.
- A Snapchat+ subscription does not make someone a Snap Star.
- Snapchat says it does not charge people for Snap Star verification.
So, if you see a star on someone’s Snapchat profile, don’t automatically assume that they have Snapchat+. The star may be showing that the person is a verified Snap Star.
How to Tell the Difference Between the Two Stars
The star itself may not always be enough to tell the difference. If you are unsure, look at the profile information and context rather than relying only on the star’s appearance. A Snapchat+ star represents a subscription, while a Snap Star represents verification.
Does Snapchat Charge for Snap Star Verification?
No. Snapchat says it does not charge people or accept money in exchange for Snap Star verification. Being a Snapchat+ subscriber also does not automatically make someone a Snap Star.
A Snap Star and a Snapchat+ subscriber are therefore not the same thing. Snapchat+ is a paid subscription with extra features, while Snap Star is a verification status for eligible creators and public figures.
How Many Followers Do You Need to Become a Snap Star?
Snapchat does not give a fixed follower number that guarantees Snap Star status. Snapchat says it looks at several factors, including audience engagement, public Stories, authenticity, notability, and content quality. Even a large audience does not automatically qualify an account for Snap Star status.
How Do You Become a Snap Star?
If you are a creator or public figure, you can submit a request for Snap Star verification through Snapchat. Snapchat reviews accounts based on factors such as engagement, public content, authenticity, notability, and content quality. Meeting one of these factors does not guarantee verification.
Can Snap Stars Make Money on Snapchat?
Snap Star status itself is not a payment program. However, Snapchat’s current monetization program requires creators to be Snap Stars along with meeting other requirements
Snapchat Star Symbols and Badges: What’s the Difference?
